Pumpkin Poem

Here's a neat Pumpkin Coloring Page and Poem that I found.

October 29th-November 2nd

This week, we are going to spend some time talking about things we see at Halloween.

Monday
SPIDERS

  • We are reading Joanna Cole's "Magic School Bus Get's Caught In a Web"
  • We are learning interesting spider facts.
  • We are coloring a black widow spider and talking about dangerous spiders.
  • We are singing Dr. Jean's "Itsy Bitsy Spider"
  • We are going to review the book "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bat" and make our own Bellies with Bats and Goblins and Wizards, etc. We will practice sequencing from the story. I will also read the story having the children fill in the rhyming word at the end of each page.
  • We are going to practice rhyming using spider poems.

Tuesday

PUMPKINS

  • We are going to read our Pumpkin Poems. We are searching for the rhyming words and illustrating our own Pumpkin Poem Pages.
  • We are reviewing the letter "P" sound.
  • We will read "Pumpkin Hill" and "Froggy's Halloween"
  • We will plan for our Halloween Party on Wednesday.
  • We will do a Pumpkin Play with our 5 Little Pumpkins Poem.
  • We will work on our Say No to Drugs booklets

Wednesday

HALLOWEEN PARTY!!!!!

Thursday

  • Novemeber is Here!
  • We will read about the very first Thanksgiving Day.
  • We will read about Pilgram children and Native American Children in the 1600's
  • The first Thanksgiving was in the year 1620.
  • We are making hand turkeys with the poem:

"The turkey is a funny bird

His head goes bobble-bobble

And all he knows is just one word...

Gobble-Gobble!"

Books We Read Today:

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A...

If you haven't read any of the Little Old Lady Who Swallowed.....books, you are missing out. They are so much fun and there are so many activities to do with her. If you remember the song, "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" then you have the basic idea. The newer books include "Swallowed a Bat", "Swallowed a Shell" and "Swallowed Some Snow". I found this great print out along with a whole list of activities at one of my favorite websites:

I also used the print outs from "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" for my Fall Festival Costume. It took most people a little time to figure it out, but my kids all got it right away since we've been doing this song in class.

5 Little Pumpkins

5 Little Pumpkins Sitting on the Gate
The first one says, Oh my it's getting late
The second one says, Oh I don't care
The third one says *pumpkin pie is in the air
The fourth one says Let's run and run and run
The fifth one says - It's Halloween Fun
OOOOOOOO went the wind
Out went the lights
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

This is a great little finger play rhyme that I am using this week to work on ordinal numbers.
* This rhyme actually says, "There's witches in the air", but I don't do witches. I most defiantly do pumpkin pie, so I changed it!
